Winter Wellness
Winter time can be more of a challenge to keep ourselves feeling healthy and our sense of well-being strong. We are drawn into our internal space and our basic human needs for warmth, food and comfort are intensified. It is ok to be still, rest and sleep more. It’s not being lazy, it’s being smart. Resting, reflecting and integrating are all great qualities of winter time. Then we have the energy we need to burst into spring with our life force strong.
There is of course a subtle difference between resting and reflecting and being stuck. It is important to be aware of this and be honest with ourselves.
✨Do we need to shift something?
Stuckness is stagnant energy and can prevent the flow of life force. We need this flow of energy physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually to keep us fully alive.
We can support this flow by being aware and practicing some good habits.
Winter Wellness tips
Create positive energy and thoughts
Some helpful practices to clear negative thoughts and restore positivity include making space in the day for
✨relaxation
✨meditation
✨conscious breathing
This helps calm the mind and gives us a feeling of being in balance. No matter what is going on around us we can make space to breathe, connect and find ourselves again.
A great way for recharging with positive energy is visualising relaxing in sun light, breathing long and deep, absorbing the golden energy into every cell. Even two mins in this space can be effective. The key is to keep coming back to the breath. When the mind wanders, focus on the breath.
The power of positive thoughts effects our physical health too and has been proven to strengthen the immune system and lower stress levels.

✨I often watch The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zdtqLNeK6Ww
as a good reminder to keep focused on positive thoughts and working with the law of attraction.
Positive thoughts are like a magnet for positive energy and so it flows creating more positive energy. It works the same way with negative thoughts which can keep us stuck in a negative pattern and can keep us feeling low.
✨Taking a few moments during the day to think of a few gratitudes is such a powerful practice. It can bring a burst of positivity to our mind and shift us into a bright space.
Have good quality relaxation, rest and sleep
Most of us spend our time in the busyness of life. Whizzing through the day from one task to the next, trying our best to fit everything in and rarely feeling present and calm. If this is our reality we need extra time to relax, rest and sleep to recover and repair the damage stress makes. As this clever saying emphasises…
“Meditate every day for 20 mins. If you don’t have time make it 60mins”
If we prioritise time to rest and repair we often can find we have clearer energy and are more effective in our missions.
✨Is this an area you need to make more space for?
✨Do you wake up feeling rested, nourished and energised?
✨Do you rely on substances like coffee or sugar to give you a high to get through the day?
✨Do you rely on substances like alcohol to relax and feel happy?
✨How much time and energy do you give to social media?
✨Could you invest this time for relaxation and giving yourself a break?
In our culture, quality relaxation, rest and sleep are not given enough priority and time. Most of us are wired and need to chill out 😊
✨What’s the rush?
Keep moving
Conscious resting and relaxing is vital for our winter well being but we do need to balance this with movement to keep our physical body healthy. It’s well known that during dangerously cold times, animals move around. There’s a good reason for this. Physically, our life force flows through our blood. Moving our muscles allows the circulation to flow to our cells and provides fresh blood giving us energy.
We need to move every day to keep our physical bodies healthy but also to process our thoughts and emotions. In winter time we need to be super motivated to keep up with physical activity. It can be as simple as a few stretches before breakfast, a brisk walk at lunch time, choosing the stairs rather than lifts at work, listening to music and having a dance as we make dinner or enjoying an outdoor activity on our days off. We can be creative and have fun with it 😊
✨What are your favourite exercise practices to get your blood moving every day?
✨Are you committed to making space in your day for these practices?
When our muscles feel stiff and sore it’s usually a clear sign we need to move.
Keep warm
When we move our muscles we move our blood and we release energy. This is an important way to stay warm. Layering up with scarf, hat, gloves, socks, wrist and leg warmers help support the circulation and stop us loosing precious heat when outside in the cold. We need this help to keep the blood flowing especially to our vital organs such as the kidneys. Keeping the kidneys warm is important for many reasons. They are are our life force organs and should be treated with extra respect.
Kidney worshiping practices
✨Wear a scarf or blanket around the kidneys when feeling cold
✨Give them a gentle rub throughout the day (feels so comforting)
✨Keep our drinks warm (no cold drinks or food straight from the fridge)
✨Stay hydrated ~ drink mostly pure water with some herbal tea and fresh juice
✨Avoid food and drinks with additives
✨Avoid cold drafts
These will keep our kidneys happy and pumping out the life force!
Healthy eating habits
To support our healthy eating habits and keep us inspired and on track it’s great to choose five tasty, healthy recipes to get us through the winter. Stocking up on the ingredients for these will make it easy and help us make better food choices. This is a great way to steer towards making it simple for ourselves and avoid winter binging on sugar and unhealthy stodge.
There’s some gorgeous recipes at onegreenplanet.org such as
http://www.onegreenplanet.org/vegan-recipe/lentil-curry-stuffed-sweet-potatoes-vegan/
My favourite easy meals at the mo are…
✨Porridge and sugar free berry jam (super quick and easy ~ bowl of oats, pour in boiling water, stir, leave for a min, add more water or some unsweetened almond milk, and sugar free jam)
✨Mung bean curry (again super easy ~ soak mung beans over night, rinse well, cook for about 20mins until soft, take off heat, add coconut oil, turmeric, cumin, coriander, cardamom, black pepper, sea salt, and lots of frozen peas, leave for a few mins then serve with brown basmati rice, fresh coriander and squeeze lemon) Can be adapted as you like 😊 e.g. add more vegetables, garlic or coconut milk.
✨Also loving spinach and lentil lasagne, Morrocan chickpea stew and homemade sweet potato burgers with roasted vegetables.
And bouja bouja salted caramel ice cream and Livias kitchen millionaires shortbread ☺️ There are so many yummy choices! It’s easy now to stay super clean and healthy whilst also having lots of delicious treats.
✨What are your 5 top winter recipes?
✨What ingredients do you need to stock up on to make it easy?
Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food
As we all know, what we put into our body is fundamental to our health and well being. A great way to decide if something is right to consume is to ask yourself
“Is this medicinal?”
Or
“Is this toxic?”
Determine if it’s the mind taking over and using food as a substance to numb or distract, or if it’s nutritious for the physical body.
Let’s be aware and let’s be real! ☺️
A great way to find out what’s in a food is to read the label for its ingredients. If it takes more than five seconds to read it or you need a biochemistry degree to understand it it’s probably best avoided!
✨Are you justifying your choice of food and convincing yourself it’s right when you know it’s not good for you? (A lot of people say this about bread)
✨What medicinal foods does your physical body need right now?
We need to keep educating ourselves about our nutritional needs. There are lots of amazing resources we can explore to deepen our understanding of what foods to avoid and which ones to have as medicine foods.
There are many powerful medicines in our kitchens already. Garlic is one of the best and a wonderful medicine to support our life force.
Garlic
Garlic’s most potent form is fresh, organic, crushed and raw. When crushed, raw garlic activates it’s strong anti-microbial properties that have been shown to be as powerful as antibiotic drugs. Although antibiotics (as helpful as they are in the right situation) kill the whole flora of bacteria and fungus, garlic irradiates the nasty ones and supports the growth of our helpful ones.

Healthy immunity ~ Prevention & treatment for cold virus
Including fresh garlic in our diet will work it’s magic with our immune system. It is also important to be kind to our immune system by avoiding harsh processed sugar, alcohol, caffeine, meat, dairy and wheat. These all create an inflammatory response in our body and take energy away from the immune system that is needed to fight infections. We can get a quick high initially as the immune system is stimulated which is usually followed by a big dip and feeling of lethargy as it sucks our life force. Getting back to basics with…
✨clean fluids including warm water
(diluted juice or squash is not clean ~ read the ingredients and look them up!)
✨herbal tea e.g. ginger, chamomile, elderflower and peppermint
✨nourishing home made vegetable soup
(processed soup from a can is best avoided ~ it’s easy to make your own gorgeous soup and freeze it if best)
✨staying warm
✨resting lots
…all are a big help for the immune system and give it the space to deal with infection. Also remember the power being happy and positive has on our immune system health. Extra help is available too with essential oils. For more info on oils that support the immune system click this link 🌷

Get the lesson
Remember it is completely normal to be ill sometimes. It can wake us up, clean us out, teach us what we need to learn, remind us what’s important and bring us into a place of humility. Usually if we get the lesson and support the body heal, rather than suppressing the symptoms and denying the need, we heal properly and we feel better. We have to be truth seekers, accepting responsibility and staying in our power. We have to want to heal. We have to face ourselves and we have to face life. In all its expressions.
Let’s get the lesson and move on 😊
I love the book by Louise Hay “You can heal your life” for great insights and understanding into the healing process.

Be a lighthouse
It is helpful to encourage and support those around us to heal too . We do need to remember to be respectful of their space and not interfere with their healing process.
It’s most effective to see people in their highest rather than pity them, see them as victims or project our negative thoughts and fears onto them.
This is so important to practice in life. It can be more challenging with family although we could see it as an ideal opportunity to refine our lighthouse skills!
Let’s focus on positive health and well being. Lifting people up, without using our own resources, instead trusting that the life force is in everyone and everything.
Sometimes it just needs help to unblock and unravel and for the person to connect with themselves. We can all remind each other of this, we can all lift each other up.
✨What are the brightest most helpful words you can say to someone?
Let’s support each other
Let’s choose to lift each other up!
Let’s follow our bliss ✨
✨What is the best version of yourself and others?
Let’s focus on that and charge that up 👍💡
Wishing you the healthiest and happiest winter time ever!
Brightest blessings to you ✨
